Liverpool Request to Reschedule League Cup Semi-final First Leg Against Arsenal

Liverpool have asked the English Football League (EFL) to reschedule the first leg of their League Cup semi-final against Arsenal.

However, as the number of COVID-19 cases in Liverpool’s body is on the rise, the Reds have asked the EFL for waivers to postpone the match.

Liverpool canceled Tuesday’s first-team training session.

“The Reds have formally requested the EFL to reschedule the match after further suspected positive tests were recorded in players and staff, along with other factors that influenced player selection, including illness and injury,” Liverpool said.

“Among the considerations driving this request to the EFL is the need for away supporters to be notified as soon as possible of any possible delay.”

Manager Juergen Klopp, along with goalkeeper Alisson Becker, striker Roberto Firmino and defender Joel Matip were ruled out of last weekend’s 2-2 draw against Chelsea after testing positive for COVID-19 again.

Virgil van Dijk, Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho and Curtis Jones were also forced to isolate last month, as reported by Antara.
